Koufonisia belongs to the group of the Small Eastern Cyclades.
They consist of Pano Koufonisi or Koufonisi since it is the only habitable one, Kato Koufonisi, while Glaronisi and Keros complete the landscape.

The Upper and Lower Koufonissi are separated by a 200 m wide track. Geographically they are located southeast of Naxos and west of Amorgos. Southwest of Koufonissia lies Schinoussa and shortly after Iraklia.

There are still 14 islands around the largest islands that you can visit if you have a boat. Pano Koufonissi has a Marina, a safe haven for tourist boats. Regular ferries connect Koufonissia with the port of Piraeus, Amorgos and Naxos.

Pano Koufonisi

Pano Koufonisi occupies an area of ​​3.5 sq. Km with 440 inhabitants occupying the main occupations of fishing and tourism, while agriculture and livestock serve domestic needs.
The fishing fleet of the island, according to its population, is the first in Greece and certainly fresh fish and seafood will not be missing from your table. Koufonissi is the smallest inhabited island of the Cyclades and you definitely do not need a car to enjoy the peace. Along the southern and eastern coastline there are beaches with turquoise waters, soft sandy beaches, charming rocks and the route contains the most important beaches. “The Devil’s Eye” Cave, “Milk” and the Sea Caves at Xylobatis. On the rest of the island you will find smaller beaches, with thin or thick pebbles. Less visitors will make you feel that you are the only one on the island.

Kato Koufonissi

Kato Koufonisi is uninhabited. Of course it is easy to classify it as uninhabitable since there are no permanent residents. It is common for some to resort to Kato Koufonissi to experience nature in all its splendor.
The island has an area of ​​4.3 km2. The shortest distance to Pano Koufonisi is 200 m. Abandoned in the late 1960s. Human vanity has not been in conflict with the work of nature ever since.
For the most part you meet no people in Kato Koufonissi except for traveler birds, goats or sheep to linger constantly and lush vegetation to grow with the wind and the sun, free to choose to grow left or right.
